As some of you have heard, I've decided to participate in Extra Life, an annual 24-hour video game marathon that serves as a fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. I've chosen to raise money for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
I learned about this event from my hardcore gamer-brother, who participated last year. It sounded like too much fun for a good cause, so I signed up this year.
The marathon is planned for October 15th, and participants are asked to play any video game, computer game, game on their phone, anything, for 24 hours consecutively. I plan to play NCAA Football on the PS3 with my buddy Micah.
Our team name is the "Athletic Thumbs", because, you know, we'll need them if our hands are going to survive playing for 24 hours straight. I've already started some thumb exercises. Thanks to Micah for our logo.
So how did such a crazy event get started? Extra Life was started in 2009 by Jeromy Adams of Sarcastic Gamer as a way of honoring Victoria Enmen, a little girl who fought numerous battles with leukemia before finally succumbing to the disease. Here's a compilation of some of the interviews with her that Jeromy did while working for KKBQ.
For added fun-ness, I will be creating a football team with virtual versions of all my donors with hopes of winning to a National Championship. That's right, donate today and you can join the ExtraLife Athletic Thumbs virtual football team!! What are you waiting for?! Do it now!!
Stay tuned for player profiles of my donor-teammates!
